DevCorp North holds Annual Meeting

Purchase your Chicago City Sticker without leaving Rogers Park
The City of Chicago 2006-2007 vehicle sticker sales season began on June 1st. If you have not yet purchased your city sticker, the City Clerk's Office and 49th Ward Alderman Joe Moore are teaming up to provide convenient vehicle sticker sales on two dates at the 49th Ward Service office at 7356 N. Greenview:
Wednesday, June 21st from 12 noon to 7pm
Wednesday, July 5th from 12 noon to 7pm
The annual renewal period is from June 1st to June 30th, with an automatic extension through July 15th. Vehicle stickers purchased after this date will be subject to a $40 late fee. If you are age 65 or older and possess a valid Illinois driver's you are eligible for a senior citizen discount on your sticker. Failure to display a valid Chicago Sticker may result in a $120.00 fine.

Craftmobile comes to Rogers Park
The Chicago Park District Takes Fun On The Road
Chicago children can create unique arts and crafts outdoors when the Chicago Park District drives its “Craftmobile” into local playlots. This free workshop on wheels stops each weekday for an art project, toys and games. All supplies are provided.
The drop-in program is scheduled to stop at 19 local playlots. In the event of rain, the Craftmobile will stop at the nearest park fieldhouse. The Craftmoblie will be in Rogers Park on Thursdays, from June 29th through August 3rd from 2:30 to 3:30 pm at Matanky Playlot located at 6925 N. Ridge Avenue. The site in case of rain is Warren Park located at 6601 N. Western Avenue.

The Busycle Visits Chicago on a Cross Country Story Collecting Tour

The Busycle, a bus powered by the pedaling of fifteen people, is taking its first U.S. Story Collecting Tour. The Busycle is a story collection vehicle and a traveling public art piece.
The Busycle Cross Country Story Collection Tour will visit Boston, Providence, Philadelphia, Cleveland, Chicago, Minneapolis, Marquette NE, Cheyenne, Salt Lake City, Reno, and San Francisco.
In Chicago, the Busycle's visit is co-sponsored by Mess Hall and the Chicagoland Bicycle Federation (http://www.biketraffic.org). The Busycle also receives support from the Berwick Research Institute, MIT Council for the Arts, Black Rock Arts Foundation, LEF Foundation, Mass Cultural Council, Boston Art Commission, and Fund for Boston Neighborhoods.

A new session of computer classes will begin the week of June 12th!
Students are taught the basics of the Microsoft Office Suite, such as Word, Powerpoint, Excel, and Access, along with basic internet research skills. These skills are critical to expanding your small business or improving your employability.
As usual classes will be offered Monday and Wednesday mornings (10am-12pm), Tuesday and Thursday evenings (6-8pm) or Saturday mornings (9am-1pm) for a ten week session. All classes are held at 1557 W. Howard Street. Registration is only $40 for the entire ten week session. Instruction is available for both beginners and more advanced levels.
Two new courses for 2006: Quickbooks for small business owners and Basic Web Design for small business owners or individuals. Quickbooks will be taught by an experienced accountant at a basic level and will be offered Monday nights from 6pm-8pm. Basic Web Design will be offered on Wednesday nights from 6pm-9pm for 3 consecutive weeks. Both courses will be $40 to register.

Rogers Park Youth Boxing Documentary Premiere
Independent filmmaker Kevin Berrey announces the premiere of Shadow of a Bout, a documentary about the Loyola Park youth boxing team, run out of the Chicago Park District gym in Rogers Park. The film features four teens braving the blows dealt by life and by their opponents in the ring. Director will host two free community screenings and a workshop:

Shadow of a Bout traces the interconnected story of four teens and their boxing coach from Chicago's Rogers Park neighborhood. It follows their lives at home and at the Loyola Academy Boxing Gym, culminating with their entrance into the biggest amateur boxing event of the summer, the National Junior Golden Gloves Championship. Born in Evanston, IL, director Kevin Berrey currently lives in New York City and has worked for the Apprentice, the U.S. Postal Service, Italian TV, and an upcoming documentary about Chinese Emigrés. Shadow of a Bout is his documentary feature debut.
